An interview with Emilie Franklin, Group Legal Counsel at Modaxo Traffic Management in Canada.
How would you describe the state of the GC Community in your region? How has it changed since you first moved in-house?
I have recently moved to North America so this GC community is hard for me to describe as I have not yet broken into the community. If I look at the Australian GC Community I am finding that it is changing in the sense that the newer generation are more comfortable to collaborate, share, provide support and mentor.
Why is expanding your network important to you? What kinds of connections or discussions would be most valuable to you?
Expanding my network is important as it allows me to collaborate with others but also provide opportunities to learn what others are doing in the space; what struggles they may have and how they are dealing with it. Honest, transparent discussions are most valuable to me.
What do you want to achieve by collaborating with other GCs and senior in-house lawyers?
I am hoping to share my experience but also learn, grow and network from others. A challenge I have today, someone else may be experiencing in the future or may already have experienced. It’s these valuable conversations that add meaning and support to each other.
Are there specific topics, challenges, or experiences you’d like to share or learn more about?
I would be interested to learn more about upskilling a team. Any tips/tricks? I have been trying to hire since August last year and would be interested to hear others experiences in the current market. Would love to learn more about changes or potential changes to legislation that are going to impact businesses and teams; also how to best add value to a business as a service provider.
