I am a General Counsel/Head of Legal with over 20 years of experience and a unique blend of technical, legal, and business expertise representing start-ups to Fortune 500 high-tech, SaaS, and healthcare/health IT companies. My areas of focus include corporate governance, software (SaaS) / information technology (IT), health IT, data privacy, cybersecurity, intellectual property (IP), regulatory, international, mergers and acquisitions, securities, healthcare, and litigation matters. Additionally, I have a Big Law background, including serving as a partner at prestigious firms (K&L Gates, Honigman).
Across my legal career, I have served as lead counsel on dozens of high-stakes IP litigations in various US district courts and the International Trade Commission. I have represented start-ups to Fortune 50 international companies in various transactional and litigation matters involving software, wireless network security, mobile applications, SaaS, artificial intelligence, autonomous and connected vehicles, automotive systems, digital mapping and location-based services, medical devices, medical diagnostics, and semiconductor technologies.
Prior to entering the legal profession, I obtained a BS in computer science and worked for nearly a decade as a software developer / leader, specialising in software design and development using various technologies, including Java, C#, C, C++, HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, Python, PHP, Oracle, Linux, and MySQL, among others.
My legal experience, technical background, and strong business acumen (MBA) allows me to effectively bridge the gaps between engineers, executives, and lawyers. I bring strong leadership, management, and communications skills, combining experience in running in-house legal teams while working collaboratively with key stakeholders and the board to solve complex problems and lead major transactions. I thrive on being at the cutting edge of technology, and I am able to see the big picture and strategise on plans for goals down the road, while also leading day-to-day operations.
