An interview with Dr. Jamil Eladawi, Legal & Contracts Manager at KRH in Kuwait.
What has been the most defining moment of your career as an in-house lawyer so far?
One defining moment was leading the legal and compliance restructuring for a multinational project operating under complex local and cross-border regulations. This experience reinforced the strategic role of the in-house counsel – not only as a legal gatekeeper but also as a business enabler who balances governance, commercial priorities, and ethical responsibility.
In what ways do you see the role of the GC changing over the next 5–10 years?
The role of the General Counsel is evolving from being primarily reactive to becoming a proactive strategic partner. Over the next decade, GCs will increasingly drive organisational sustainability, digital transformation, and AI governance. The emphasis will shift from legal protection alone to value creation through risk foresight, innovation, and integrated decision-making.
How do you balance the pressures of your role with personal wellbeing and resilience?
Maintaining balance starts with perspective – recognising that high performance is sustained through self-discipline, not constant intensity. I prioritise structured time management, delegation, and periodic reflection to maintain clarity and resilience. A healthy balance between professional focus and personal restoration ultimately strengthens both judgment and leadership.
