An interview with Stella Hsieh, General Counsel at Comma3 Ventures in Taiwan.
How would you describe the state of the GC Community in your region? How has it changed since you first moved in-house?
The GC community in Taiwan has grown significantly in both size and influence. When I first transitioned in-house, the role was primarily seen as risk mitigation and compliance-focused. However, over the years, GCs have evolved into strategic business partners, actively contributing to corporate decision-making, governance, and innovation. There is also a greater emphasis on collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and staying ahead of regulatory developments, particularly in emerging areas like web3.
Why is expanding your network important to you? What kinds of connections or discussions would be most valuable to you?
Networking is invaluable, not only for professional growth but also for staying informed on industry best practices and evolving legal landscapes. I find the most valuable connections to be those that foster candid discussions on real-world challenges, regulatory shifts, and innovative legal strategies. Whether it’s exchanging insights on deal structuring, or compliance frameworks, these conversations contribute greatly to my professional development.
What do you want to achieve by collaborating with other GCs and senior in-house lawyers? Are there specific topics, challenges, or experiences you’d like to share or learn more about?
I see collaboration as an opportunity to share experiences, problem-solve, and enhance the collective knowledge of the GC community. Topics of particular interest include navigating cross-border legal issues, regulatory compliance in fintech and venture capital, leadership in high-growth companies, and the future of legal tech. Learning from peers who have tackled similar challenges is incredibly valuable, and I look forward to exchanging insights through GC Connected.
