An interview with Jose Moscati, General Counsel at DGT Digital Transformation in Brazil.
How would you describe the state of the GC Community in your region?
The GC community in Latin America, like the entire legal community, is undergoing significant changes due to factors such as economic stress, which implies tight budgets and pressure to do more with less, and technological pressure, as GCs are having to learn and adapt to IA and automated processes.
How has it changed since you first moved in-house?
When I first moved in-house, the world was going through a period of abundance, and Latin America was the target of investors. I believe the challenges are higher today than ever before.
Why is expanding your network important to you?
In a fast-moving environment, it is crucial to stay up-to-date with the latest market changes and trends. Being part of a group and participating in a community is key to staying informed, and it also provides a sense of comfort and community. Meetings have a significant human element.
What kinds of connections or discussions would be most valuable to you?
I believe the key discussions today are around IA and the political trends and sharing experiences in general.
What do you want to achieve by collaborating with other GCs and senior in-house lawyers?
I want to stay informed about the trends within the legal departments and also have the human experience of meeting friends and colleagues. After 30 years of experience as a lawyer and 25 years in-house, I feel I have a duty to share what I’ve learned, help others navigate the challenges we face, and give back to the community.
Are there specific topics, challenges, or experiences you’d like to share or learn more about?
I believe I am well-positioned to share my experience in organising legal and compliance departments, as well as my expertise in dealing with people and in automation and information architecture (IA).
