An interview with Ignacio Marin Garcia, Legal Director at Pivotal in Spain.
What are the biggest external forces or trends currently shaping your role as General Counsel and how are you responding to them?
The most significant trend currently shaping my role as General Counsel is the growing focus on AI – particularly how to integrate it effectively into our business processes.
Up to now, our approach has been to recognise AI’s potential while moving forward with deliberate caution.
How are you balancing the increasing demands of legal risk management with the expectation to drive business value and strategic insight?
Our guiding principle in managing this trade-off is straightforward: if the expected legal risk of a transaction outweighs its anticipated business value, the deal offers no real benefit to the company.
What’s one lesson or insight from your in-house journey that you wish you’d known earlier and would share with a fellow GC today?
From a value creation standpoint, effective legal advice relies heavily on the operational know-how of teams engaged in the company’s day-to-day processes. Their insights are critical to understanding practical risks and aligning legal strategy with business objectives.
