An interview with Daniel Mora Molina, General Counsel at WOW in Peru.
How would you describe the state of the GC Community in your region? How has it changed since you first moved in-house?
The GC Community in Latin America – and particularly in Peru – has evolved significantly. When I first moved in-house over two decades ago, the role of General Counsel was often viewed narrowly as purely legal risk management. Today, the GC is recognised as a strategic partner to the CEO and the Board, actively contributing to business growth, governance, regulatory foresight, and corporate strategy. There is a stronger sense of collaboration and innovation among GCs across industries, fuelled by the increasing complexity of regulatory environments and the need for agile, business-oriented legal leadership.
Why is expanding your network important to you? What kinds of connections or discussions would be most valuable to you?
Expanding my network is crucial to exchange best practices, anticipate market trends, and foster innovative legal strategies that create value for the business. I particularly value connections with other GCs and senior in-house leaders who are passionate about transforming the legal function, driving compliance in dynamic environments, and building high-performance legal teams aligned with the business strategy.
What do you want to achieve by collaborating with other GCs and senior in-house lawyers? Are there specific topics, challenges, or experiences you’d like to share or learn more about?
Through collaboration, I aim to promote a more strategic, business-centric view of the General Counsel role. Key topics of interest include leadership in legal innovation, regulatory risk management in emerging markets, governance practices, and the use of technology to enhance legal department effectiveness. Sharing and learning from real-world experiences dealing with high-impact challenges – such as navigating regulatory changes or managing complex cross-border transactions – is invaluable.
