An interview with Dalma Parisi, General Counsel South America (w/o Brazil) Government Affairs & Sustainability at Siemens in Argentina.
How would you describe the state of the GC Community in your region? How has it changed since you first moved in-house?
The GC community in South America has evolved significantly since I first moved in-house. Initially, the role of General Counsel was often seen as primarily legal advisory. However, over the years, it has transformed into a strategic business partner role, deeply integrated into business operations and decision-making processes. This shift has been driven by the increasing complexity of regulatory environments, the need for robust compliance frameworks, and the growing importance of corporate governance. The community has become more collaborative, with GCs frequently sharing best practices and insights to navigate common challenges.
Why is expanding your network important to you?
Expanding my network is important for several reasons. Firstly, it allows me to stay updated on global trends and emerging issues that could impact our region. Secondly, it provides opportunities to learn from the experiences of peers in different industries and jurisdictions.
What kinds of connections or discussions would be most valuable to you?
The most valuable connections and discussions for me are those that offer practical solutions to complex legal and compliance issues, insights into innovative legal technologies, and strategies for effective risk management.
What do you want to achieve by collaborating with other GCs and senior in-house lawyers? Are there specific topics, challenges, or experiences you’d like to share or learn more about?
By collaborating with other GCs and senior in-house lawyers, I aim to achieve several objectives. I am particularly interested in discussing topics such as the implementation of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives, navigating cross-border legal challenges, and assessing the role of IA in the Legal Department. Sharing experiences and strategies on these topics can help us collectively improve our practices and contribute to the broader legal community.
